“I Will Be Back “, Kamaru Usman To Fight Leon In England , Says Half London Is Africa
Leon Edwards’ victory over Kamaru Usman with a brutal fifth-round knockout of the UFC 278 title fight last Saturday (20th) shocked the world, but it doesn’t seem to have shaken the Nigerian’s confidence. In an interview with the American website “TMZ”, the first after the loss of the title, the Nigerian assured he was well and ready for the probable trilogy against the British.
In the interview, Kamaru Usman said he had spoken with Dana White and stated that he should face Leon Edwards again in early 2023, in England, the rival’s home, but also adopted by the Nigerian as his “second home”.
“ What else makes sense? I mean, look at the division. That’s for sure (the trilogy) what’s going to happen in the sequel. I spoke to Dana (White) and we’ll see. I’ll let him do his job and see which date makes sense. It will be early next year. I wanted to try to tighten it up this year, but it will probably be early next year and I want to go to England. I’m looking forward to going to England. I feel that England is my second home. People don’t know, but half of England is Africa, so it’s time to go there and entertain my English people. You couldn’t write a better story than that,” said the former champion.
Knocked out with an accurate high kick in the final minute of the fight, which was winning on the judges’ charts, Kamaru Usman made a point of praising Leon Edwards for the blow and showed sportsmanship when talking about how he faced the defeat.
“It was a great blow. A great hit. I’m talking like a ‘Hail Mary’ at the Super Bowl with ten seconds to go. It was a great hit. Hats off to Leon (Edwards). Is not difficult. Do you know how many people I’ve done this to? It’s not difficult at all, it happens. What makes the sport so beautiful is that it happens, but we forgot what was really going on in that fight, so I’m not bad at all.”
