They Planned To kill President Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva On Inauguration Day , Says Minister Of Justice

The Minister of Justice and Public Security , Flávio Dino, on Friday , February , 24th , revealed that the Federal Police has discovered the existence of a plan to kill President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) with a rifle shot at the inauguration ceremony in Brasília , on the 1st of January.

According to the minister, the Federal Police identified that the attack had been planned through online messages.

According to him , one of those involved was the radical Bolsonarist , George Washington de Oliveira Sousa, accused of masterminding a bomb attack at the Federal Capital Airport days before the President Lula assumed the presidency.

In prison since December 24th., the suspect who was arrested trying to set bombs at the airport in Brasilia had been training and getting instructions on how to fire a long-distance rifle.

There were preparatory acts for the execution of a shot that was going to be a shot on the day of Lula’s inauguration,” said Minister Flavio Dino.

Dino further revealed that Federal Police also seized a long-distance weapon from another radical Bolsonarista on December 29th , 2022 .

The Federal Police had earlier arrested a man who posted videos on social media threatening to shoot President Lula on inauguration day. “He goes up the ramp, I just don’t know if it ends”, said the extremist in one of the recordings revealed by the Police

Due to the recent threats, the Justice and security minister stressed that Lula’s security is more important . He said the Immediate protection, which used to be the responsibility of the Institutional Security Office (ISO) has been transferred to a special nucleus formed by Federal Police In Brasilia .

It should be recalled that Thousands of far-right supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stormed the country’s Congress, Supreme Court and presidential palace on January 8, 2023.

In images similar to those from the January 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol, demonstrators were seen overwhelming and beating police while breaching the security perimeter of the buildings.

It comes weeks after Bolsonaro was ousted in an election that saw the return of leftist former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
