In a recent discourse, Chief Akinade Ayoola, Basorun of Oyo, addressed an interactive session in Brazil under the auspices of Dr. Adeyinka Olaiya. He staunchly affirmed that the vacant throne of the Alafin would soon find its occupant. As the head of Oyomesi, he emphasized that Oyo remains Oyo, unwavering regardless of the unfilled seat of the Alaafin of Oyo.

When queried, Basorun delved into the significance of all Orisa festivals in Oyo, asserting that all is well in the region, albeit culturally and spiritually awaiting the next Alaafin.

Basorun elucidated that the Alaafin selects the Basorun, and vice versa. He highlighted that the chosen Alaafin embodies the revered Kabiyesi Sango, underscoring Oyo’s pivotal role in the veneration of Sango and other Orisas. Basorun adamantly stated that no other town rivals Oyo in the worship and reverence of Orisas, elucidating the elaborate festival dates celebrated in Oyo.

Expounding on the essence of Orisa festivals, Basorun emphasized their profound significance in Oyo’s cultural landscape , the High chief reassured attendees that Oyo continues to thrive, with cultural festivities irrespective of the vacant Alaafin throne. He underscored the importance of cultural tourism in showcasing Oyo’s rich heritage to the world.
