Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has passed away. His death was confirmed by his son, Jide Iwuanyanwu, in a statement released on Thursday.

“The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, announces the passing of our patriarch, Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu-Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo,” the statement read. “Chief Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a brief illness at the age of 82.”

Before his death, Chief Iwuanyanwu served as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and was also the President of the Owerri Peoples Assembly.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Iwuanyanwu, as well as numerous children and grandchildren. The family has indicated that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, following necessary consultations.

Born in September 1942 in Umuohii, Ikeduru LGA, Imo State, Chief Iwuanyanwu was a prominent businessman and politician. He was the 11th President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
