The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode has formally rejected the lineage claim of Fuji legend Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adewale, popularly known as KWAM 1, declaring the completed particulars and linkage form he submitted as invalid and of no consequence.
The ruling house conveyed this position in an official letter dated 11 December 2025, signed by the principal officers of the family and later endorsed by the family head. The letter gained wide public attention after being posted on X by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is also an indigene of Ijebu-Ode.
The family acknowledged receiving the completed particulars and linkage form dated 10 December 2025, submitted by the musician. However, they immediately raised concerns over the manner in which the document was certified. According to the ruling house, the form was certified before it was signed by the applicant, an anomaly that violated the established tradition for processing lineage verification.
The letter stated that the form was purportedly certified by Omoba Adetayo Abayomi Oduneye Eruobodo on 8 December 2025, two days before KWAM 1 signed it. The ruling house described this as a presigned document and emphasized that the certification process did not follow proper procedure. Additionally, the family clarified that the certifier had no legal or genealogical authority to endorse such a form, declaring that he is not a registered member of the Jadiara Royal House and therefore lacks the standing to sign on behalf of the family.
Following an internal investigation, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House revealed that no evidence could be found to support the musician’s claim of belonging to the Oba Jadiara lineage or to the wider Fusengbuwa Ruling House. As a result, the family concluded that the submitted particulars and linkage form were invalid, null, and of no effect.
The letter affirmed that the ruling house fully rejects KWAM 1’s claim of membership and advised him to accept their best wishes in his future endeavours. This position was jointly signed by Otunba Lateef Owoyemi (Chairman), Pastor Prince Bola Salami (General Secretary), Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba (Deputy Chairman), Otunba Akinola Odedina (Head of Jadiara Royal House), Chief Prof. Fassy A. O. Yusuf (Vice-Chairman), and Ath. Adebisi Quadri (Co-Head, Jadiara Royal House), with the family head Otunba Abdul Lateef Adebayo also endorsing the decision.
This development follows the musician’s earlier declaration of interest in the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland. In a letter dated December 3, 2025, addressed to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Agunsebi Quarters, KWAM 1 asserted that he is a bona fide son of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, tracing his ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage. He stated that he was born on 3 March 1957, and claimed that his genealogy qualifies him to be considered for the throne under Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws. He also highlighted his five decades of contributions to the promotion of Ijebu, Yoruba, and Nigerian culture through music and cultural enterprise.
With the ruling house’s firm rejection, the musician’s bid for the Awujale stool faces a significant setback, as the throne remains one of the most prestigious and tradition-bound monarchies in Yorubaland, requiring indisputable genealogical legitimacy for anyone aspiring to it.
