British Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was injured in a car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria on December 29, 2025, local authorities confirmed. Two people died at the scene of the collision and others were injured.

Joshua, 36, the former world heavyweight champion, was seated in the rear of a Lexus SUV when the vehicle lost control and hit a stationary truck on the busy highway in Ogun State. Footage shared on social media shows him being helped out of the badly damaged vehicle, appearing in pain.

Police and road safety officials said the crash involved five men and that two passengers were killed at the scene. Joshua and at least one other person were taken to a hospital; Joshua sustained minor injuries and is in stable condition according to officials.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident, with initial indications suggesting that the SUV may have been traveling at high speed and lost control during an overtaking maneuver before colliding with the truck.

The crash comes shortly after Joshua’s high-profile sixth-round knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19, an event that marked his return to the ring after a long layoff. Messages of sympathy and support have been shared by fans and fellow fighters following news of the incident.
