The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the full digitisation of the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials, marking a significant step toward enhancing transparency, efficiency, and service delivery in Nigeria’s education sector.
This initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader digital transformation agenda, aimed at leveraging modern technology to improve data management, ensure the integrity of academic records, and support evidence-based policymaking.
Under the new system, all applications for the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials will be processed exclusively online through the Ministry’s official verification portal. Applicants are required to register and upload all necessary supporting documents via the portal: essverify.education.gov.ng.
In addition, candidates must request their respective institutions to forward official academic transcripts directly from institutional email addresses to ess1@education.gov.ng for verification and processing.
The Ministry has clarified that physical visits for credential verification are no longer required, as the entire process has been fully automated and will be conducted electronically.
The system is also expected to curb certificate and credential forgery within and beyond the country, as all relevant entities will be able to access an online platform for seamless document verification.
The transition is expected to streamline procedures, significantly reduce processing time, and strengthen the credibility and reliability of academic credential verification in Nigeria.
