The Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Igboho, has gained his freedom and is en route to Germany. The Yoruba nation agitator, who was previously arrested and detained in the Republic of Benin for two years, has been released.
According to Prof. Banji Akintoye, the leader of the Yoruba Nation group, Chief Igboho was finally freed on Sunday after two years of struggle and has departed for Germany to reunite with his family.

Recalling that Chief Sunday Igboho was arrested in July 2021, as he was about to board a flight to Germany, weeks after surviving a deadly assault by Nigerian security agents at his home in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria.
The Yoruba nation agitator has been declared wanted by the Department of State Security Services (DSS) after all attempts to apprehend him in Nigeria failed.
Igboho, who left the country via the Republic of Benin with plans to join his family in Germany, was eventually arrested in the neighboring country while preparing to depart for Germany.
Chief Igboho, in his gratitude statement, insists that the struggle continues. He expressed thanks to all who stood by him, including Prof. Banji Akintoye, whom he referred to as a father. Igboho promised to continue protecting the interests of the Yoruba people from the hands of the Fulanis in Nigeria.
“I am now free to return to Nigeria and visit any country in the world. I have fulfilled all the legal conditions attached to my bail a few years back, and I am coming home to Nigeria, my country of origin, any moment from now.
I can confirm to you that I am now free to come back to Nigeria. There is no legal encumbrance anymore. Even though I have been living in Cotonou for some time, I can confirm to you categorically that I have now secured the liberty to leave Cotonou for Nigeria,” the agitator said.
Igboho and his wife were arrested on July 20, 2021, in Cotonou while attempting to travel to Germany from Cardinal Bernardin International Airport. After some legal battles, he was granted bail instead of being repatriated to Nigeria. The bail conditions effectively kept him in Cotonou, Benin.
In a video released on Facebook, Igboho expressed gratitude to all those who supported him during his ordeal and detention in Benin. He specifically mentioned Yoruba monarchs, activists such as Professor Banji Akintoye, and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for their support during his stay in Cotonou.
