According to Captain Alex, many Nigerians have been persuaded to sell their homes, lands, businesses, and other valuable properties after being promised “easy jobs” in Brazil and even a so-called “direct bus” from Brazil to the United States without immigration checks or border controls.

“There is no bus from Brazil to the United States that allows anyone to bypass international borders. Anyone making such promises is deceiving people. These are lies designed to steal your hard-earned money,” he said.

The community leader lamented that numerous Nigerians have arrived in Brazil only to discover that the promises made by travel agents and online bloggers were completely false. Many find themselves stranded, unemployed, homeless, and without any support from the same people who convinced them to travel.

According to information gathered from members of the Nigerian community, several agencies operating in Nigeria allegedly collect as much as ₦10 million or more from desperate individuals, promising Brazilian visas, documentation, employment opportunities, and eventually an easy route into the United States. However, many migrants reportedly discover upon arrival that there are no guaranteed jobs, no automatic legal documentation, and no organized transportation to the United States. Authorities in Brazil and other countries have repeatedly warned the public about false job offers and migration scams targeting vulnerable travelers.

Captain Alex emphasized that Brazil is a Portuguese-speaking country and that language remains one of the biggest barriers for newly arrived migrants.

“Brazil is a Portuguese-speaking country. It will take you at least one year to communicate comfortably in Portuguese. If you cannot understand the language, how do you expect to find employment? How do you communicate with employers or understand your legal rights?” he asked.

He further explained that obtaining legal residency or work authorization in Brazil is not an automatic process, contrary to the misleading information circulating on social media.

“Some bloggers create attractive videos simply to attract views and followers. Others work together with dishonest travel agents because they receive commissions for every person they convince to travel. Once the migrants arrive in Brazil, many of these agents disappear, leaving them to survive on their own.”

The Nigerian Community President said the organization has witnessed an increasing number of distressed Nigerians seeking assistance after realizing they had been deceived. Some reportedly arrive with no Portuguese language skills, no employment, no accommodation, and very limited financial resources.

“Unfortunately, many become frustrated. Some depend on charity, while others struggle to survive because they were sold a dream that never existed.”

Captain Alex advised Nigerians considering migration to conduct proper research, verify information through official government channels, and avoid making life-changing decisions based solely on WhatsApp messages, TikTok videos, Facebook posts, or promises from unverified travel agents. Government agencies have consistently warned travelers to be cautious of fraudulent recruitment schemes, fake employment offers, and deceptive migration packages.

He also reminded prospective migrants that every country has its own immigration laws and that there is no legal shortcut to entering another country.

“There are no magical routes to the United States. Every country has immigration procedures, border controls, and legal requirements. Anyone promising otherwise is simply trying to scam you.”

Captain Alex concluded by appealing to Nigerians to protect themselves from exploitation.

“Do not sell your family property because someone on social media promised you an easy life abroad. Verify every claim before making such a serious decision. Migration should be based on accurate information, proper planning, and legal procedures—not on lies spread by scammers whose only interest is your money.”

He urged victims of travel fraud to report such schemes to the appropriate authorities and encouraged Nigerians to seek information from official immigration institutions rather than relying on unverified online narratives.
