Driver Arrested After Fatal Crash Involving Anthony Joshua as Police Dismiss Sabotage Claims
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the road accident that claimed the lives of two people and left former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, injured along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the driver is currently in custody and is assisting investigators as police continue a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
According to preliminary police reports, the accident occurred at about 11:00 a.m. on Monday, when the Lexus SUV allegedly collided with a stationary truck along the busy expressway in Ogun State. Two occupants of the vehicle, both identified as foreign nationals, died at the scene.
Anthony Joshua, who was also travelling in the vehicle, sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital in Lagos. Police confirmed that the boxer has since received treatment and been discharged, and is said to be in stable condition.
In the aftermath of the incident, speculation has emerged on social media and some informal platforms, with claims suggesting the crash may not have been accidental. Some commentators have alleged possible sabotage, accusing the driver of allegedly working for a group described as “vindictive characters” said to bear grievances against the boxing star.
