SÃO PAULO, Brazil — The Nigerian community in Brazil has taken a historic step to preserve the memory and legacy of its late President, Dr. Emmanuel Oluwatuyi, by declaring June 30 every year as “Oluwatuyi Day” in Brazil.

The declaration was made during the inauguration of the new leadership of the Nigerian community in Brazil on August 22, 2026, in São Paulo. The ceremony marked the formal assumption of office by Captain Alex Theophilus as President and Pastor Akin Olagundoye as Vice President, alongside members of the newly elected executive.

As part of the historic occasion, a Certificate of Immortalisation was presented to the family of the late Dr. Oluwatuyi. The certificate was handed over by the outgoing President, Hon. Emeka Ujor, to members of the deceased president’s family, represented by his wife and daughter.

The gesture was described as a lasting tribute to Dr. Oluwatuyi’s leadership, service and contributions to the Nigerian community in Brazil. By designating June 30 as Oluwatuyi Day, the community seeks to ensure that his name and legacy remain an enduring part of its history.

The annual observance is expected to provide an opportunity for members of the Nigerian community to commemorate his life, reflect on his contributions and celebrate the values of leadership, unity and community service associated with his tenure.

The inauguration and immortalisation ceremony brought together members and representatives of the Nigerian community from across Brazil. The event was also attended by the Ambassador of Nigeria to Brazil, Ambassador Bassey Okoye, as well as members of the outgoing administration, the incoming executive and other distinguished guests.

The immortalisation of Dr. Oluwatuyi represents a significant moment in the history of the Nigerian community in Brazil, formally recognising the impact of a former president whose memory will now be commemorated annually.

June 30 will henceforth be observed as Oluwatuyi Day in Brazil, serving as an annual occasion to honour Dr. Emmanuel Oluwatuyi’s life, leadership, service and enduring legacy within the Nigerian community.
